Richard Hollingworth is a voice & speech coach, specialising in accent training and accent reduction. He currently runs voice courses and accent courses at a number of drama schools and language schools across London. He is a trained teacher and actor, having performed in a variety of accents and dialects of English for film, stage and audio productions. As well as a teaching and acting, he has also worked as a theatre director, spoken word artist and extensively as a voiceover artist for audio books, radio plays and television voiceovers.

Born in Macclesfield in northern England, he was raised in Southern Africa and returned to the UK at 19 years old. Since then he has lived in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he studied for a BA (Hons) in Performance from Northumbria University, which included 3 years of the Arthur Lessac voice training system, delivered by Katerina Moraitis (NIDA; CSSD; Lessac Institute). He later moved to Manchester to work as an actor and for two years he was an notable figure in Contact Theatre’s Freestyle Mondays crew, a troupe of Mancunian Hip-Hop MC’s, beatboxers, DJ’s and producers that hosted rap, poetry and spoken word events. It was during this time that his good friend DJ Jomo nicknamed Richard ‘Very Vocab’.

Richard’s travels and fascination with cultures and languages have exposed him to a wide variety of dialects and accents, many of which he has learned or is still learning and feeding back into his lessons and creative work. His passion for the empowering nature of learning and facilitated learning is a key factor in creating these workshops.
